our journey
In October of 2010 we began to feel stirred for what the next chapter in our lives in ministry would be. We had talked about church planting our entire married lives and knew it was a possible next step for us. When we drove through the Stillwater area early in the spring of 2012, we knew it could be our home. As we continued to talk with other church planters around Minnesota and make new connections with people in Stillwater, the doors began to open. Stillwater is full of history, charm, and beauty but also has a need for strong faith communities and true relationships with God.
We want to be a church that is known for what it is for and not what it is against.
We are called to do something creative to reach people who are not attending a church. We are for the broken, the hurting, the young families, the singles, the lonely, mistreated, the forgotten; we are for YOU. Our passion is to connect people with a God who is for them. There is more, and the best is yet to come.
our Vision
Stillwater is one of the first established towns and is considered the birthplace of Minnesota. It is just northeast of St. Paul on the St. Croix River. It is one of the prime tourist destinations in the state and is famous for the amazing natural beauty. The downtown Stillwater shops and restaurants, apple orchards, bed and breakfasts, famous festivals, and amazing river activities. Many families are living in the area because of the great community. This is why we love this area. We love the family feel and the way community is involved in all areas.
Our mission is to help develop true and healthy followers of Christ that are committed to reaching the Stillwater area with the Gospel.
Watermark church is located in the heart of Stillwater at Stillwater Jr High (the former High school). We are really excited for this opportunity to have our service in the school so we can continually build our relationship with the school district. Our vision is to Love, Grow, and Serve and we'll live this out in many different ways.
our Beliefs
BIBLE
The Scriptures are Inspired by God and declare His design and plan for mankind. The Bible is God’s Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it was inspired by God, the Bible is truth without any mixture of error and is relevant to our daily lives.
TRINITY
There is only One True God revealed in three persons... Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (commonly known as the Trinity) God has existed in relationship with Himself for all eternity. Although each member of the Trinity serves different functions, they each possess equal power and authority.
THE FATHER
God is great: He is all powerful, all knowing, ever present, unchanging, completely worthy of our trust, and above all, holy. It is in Him that we live, move and exist. God is good: He is our Father. He is loving, compassionate, and faithful to His people and His promises.
THE SON
Jesus Christ is completely human, but at the same time completely God. He is the only plan for bringing people into a right relationship with God. He received the punishment for our sins when He died on the cross to satisfy God’s wrath. He defeated death in His resurrection so that we could have life.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
His presence assures us of our relationship with Christ. He guides believers into all truth, and exalts Christ. He convicts people of their sin, God’s righteousness, and the coming judgement. He comforts us, gives us spiritual gifts, and makes us more like Christ.
MAN
Man is made in the image of God and is the supreme object of His creation. Man became separated from God through sinful disobedience and ushering evil and death, both physical and spiritual, into the world. Every human is uniquely created, possesses dignity, and is worthy of respect and Christian love.
SALVATION
Everyone can have restored fellowship with God through Salvation (trusting Christ, through faith and repentance, to be our personal Savior). The blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the only way of salvation through the forgiveness of sin. Salvation is a gift from God and cannot be earned by our own efforts.
ETERNITY
Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence.
THE CHURCH
The Church has a Mission to seek and save all who are lost in sin. The church is a local community of believers unified through faith in Christ. It is committed to the teachings of Christ and to obeying all of His commands. It seeks to bring the gospel to the world by working together in love and unity, intent on glorifying Christ.
ORDINANCES
We practice two ordinances [1] Water Baptism by Immersion after repenting of one’s sins and receiving Christ’s free gift of salvation, and [2] Communion (the Lord’s Supper) as a symbolic remembrance of Christ’s suffering and death for our salvation.
Our church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God. Check out their official website here!
